During his 13-year career, Doby hit .283 with 253 home runs, 970 RBIs and 960 runs scored, while being elected to seven straight all-star games. He finished second in MVP voting in 1954 to Yogi Berra, hitting .272 with 32 home runs and 126 RBIs. During World War II (WWII), he served in the U.S. Navy. He was elected into the National Baseball Hall of Fame by the Veteran's Committee in 1998.
