BERTHA MELISSA ROSS - 89, Middle Musquodoboit, passed away May 26, 2010, in Musquodoboit Valley Memorial Hospital, surrounded by her family. Born in Glenmore, she was a daughter of the late A. C. and Florence (Corbett) Bates. Bertha's love of gardening overflowed to her being a founding member of the Musquodoboit Valley Weeders. She had a keen sense of humour and a fondness for animals. Always active, she volunteered with the Red Cross, and was a member of the Middleton UCW. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. A proud and loving mother and grandmother, she will be sadly missed by daughters, Judy Taylor, Chaswood; Roseanne (Junior) Laidlow, Middle Musquodoboit; grandchildren, Jason, Amy, David, Darci, Gregory; three great grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Laverna Bates, Dartmouth; Elizabeth Ross, Brookfield; many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, David; brothers, Ross, Charles, Earl, twin brother Bernard; sisters, Luella Seyler, Hazel Hamilton; son-in-law, Earl Taylor. Cremation has taken place. Funeral service will be Sunday at 4 pm in Middleton United Church, Middle Musquodoboit, Rev. Annika Sangster officiating. Burial to follow in Pioneer Cemetery. The family will meet friends for a reception downstairs in the church following the burial. Family flowers only. Donations may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association, Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia or Middleton United Church. Arrangements are under the direction of Arimathea Funeral Cooperative, Upper Musquodoboit.
