Acclaimed Musician. One of the outstanding trumpet players of the bebop era, he played with such greats as Charlie Parker, Bud Powell, Lionel Hampton, Tadd Dameron, Billy Eckstine, and J.J. Johnson. Though he died heartbreakingly young of tuberculosis, he remains one of the most influential trumpet players in jazz history. He was posthumously honored when "Fats Navarro Day" was proclaimed on September 24, 2002 in Linden, New Jersey.
