Mrs. Helen Keiger Burgess, 86, of Winston-Salem passed Monday, May 21, 2007, at The Oaks at Forsyth. She was born Dec. 9, 1920, in Forsyth County to the late Luther and Fay Mitchell Keiger. Mrs. Burgess was a faithful member of Mount Carmel United Methodist Church as long as her health permitted and was a charter member of the Women' s Auxiliary at Griffith Fire Department. Her husband, Walter C. Burgess; and a sister, Dale Blevins, preceded her in death. Surviving are a daughter, Faye B. Craver, and husband Don of Winston-Salem; a son, Fred Burgess Sr., of Clemmons; five grandchildren, Kim Stevens and husband Harman, Fred Burgess Jr. and wife Char, Dwayne Craver and wife Kim, Angela Davis and husband Bob and Victoria Sawyer and husband Brett; 10 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Ann Martin and husband Joe and Sue East and husband Bob, both of Winston-Salem, and Margie Ledford of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 23, at Mount Carmel United Methodist Church Cemetery, with Dr. Joe Collins and the Rev. Jim Allred officiating. The family will receive friends after the service. The Burgess family would like to give a special thanks to the staff at The Oaks at Forsyth for their loving care of Mrs. Burgess.
