Son of Wiley Grigsba and Nancy Campbell.

Married Mar. 26, 1884 in Chautuaqua Co., Kansas to Martha Ellen Thompson.

Children Clayton James, Mary Blanche, Alga Ann, Jessie Julia and Martha Florine Grigsba.

James Grigsba's real name was John R. Grigsby and he left home from Hawkins Co., Tennessee in the early 1880's and lived for a short time at Montague Co., Texas. There John met and fell in love with a young woman where shortly there after they were engaged to be married. Before the marriage could take place, John's lady love would be raped and murdered by a black man. When the trial came up for the black man, John R. Grigsby shot him, (maybe in the courtroom) and John fled the country and ended up at Chautouqua Co., Kansas where John R. Grigsby change his name to James Grigsba and would later marry Martha Ellen Thompson 1884. James had a scarf belonging to his first love and cherished so much it was buried with him in his coffin. Before James Grigsba died in 1931, he told this story to his grandson, Jack London Thompson.
