During his early life he lived on a farm in Worth county, Missouri. As a young man he started out for himself as a salesman and continued in sales work until his death. At one time he wrote a course on salesmanship which was used by many salespeople throughout the Middle West.
Late in life he became converted to the Christian faith, and died a true follower of Christ.
He leaves to mourn his departure his beloved wife, Mrs. Irene Fussell, one brother, Fred M. of Syracuse, N.Y., one sister, Miss Lola M. Fussell of Martinez, Cal., a daughter, Mrs. Roger Hertel, a grandson, James Roger Hertel, both of Cheyenne, Wyo., and a host of other relatives and friends.
Easter Sunday, 1946, he felt the inspiration to write a poem and penned the following lines:
ON THE ROAD TO GLORY
I am an old man.
I've been through life's mill,
The road has been rocky and mostly uphill.
My experiences are a blessing to man.
As they awaken the soul which is a part of God's plan.
I thank God for his servants
Who sing, preach and pray,
They taught me of Jesus and the judgment day.
I have no fear of death
For god says believe in Christ and ye shall not die.
But live eternally with Jesus up in the sky.
Funeral services were held at the Rush Smith Funeral Home, Salina, Kas., 9:30 a. m., March 31, with Rev. Ray Walker in charge and at the Kritner Funeral Home, at Geneva, Neb., April 1, Rev. Ben F. Wallace officiated. Interment was in the Geneva cemetery.
