Lucy's mother died in childbirth, and Lucy , her sister Mollie and brother Charles were placed in the Edgar County Children's Home on December 22nd 1897. Their Grandmother took the three children in, until her death in 1898, then Lucy and Charles were sent to the Illinois Soldier's and Sailor's Home in Normal Illinois.
Lucy married Henry Louis Hastings July 22nd 1912 in Terre Haute Indiana. Lucy and Henry had five children. Mollie born 1913, Liland born 1914, Virginia born 1917, Albert born 1920 and Edward born 1923.
Henry deserted Lucy and the children, and Lucy remarried on August 9th 1923 in Terre Haute Indiana to William Sparks. William preceded Lucy in death in 1936
