Lester Gerhard Messman, 72, of Glasford died at 9:50 a.m. Monday, May 1, 1989, in the Methodist Medical Center, Peoria, IL.
Mr. Messman retired in 1981 as superintendent of the Glasford Water and Sewage Department. He was a retired volunteer fireman with Timer-Hollis township.
Funeral services were held Thursday in the Glasford Baptist Church. The Rev. Tony Suitro and the Rev. Tom Eckhardt officiated. Burial was in Lancaster Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Leukemia Foundation or a charity of the donor's choice.
Born July 29, 1916 in Quiver Township, Mason County, he was the son of Herman G. and Mabel Atwater Messman. He married Mabel Morris August 2, 1941 in Palmyra, MO.
Surviving are his wife; one brother, Raymond of Topeka; and five sisters, Florence Noll of Topeka, Viola Morrie of Cortez, CO, Edna Tennett of Glasford, Alta May Fornoff of Manito and Dorothy Garlisch of Forest City; and several nieces and nephews.
Two brothers preceded him in death.
Mr. Messman was a farmer in the Mason County area in his early years. He was a member of the Glasford Baptist Church; Glasford Masonic Lodge, AF&AM; Mohammed Temple, Shrine, in Peoria and the Glasford Optimist Club.
