Elizabeth ''Betty'' Essenmacher, 66, died Wednesday, July 28, 1999, in Southwestern Medical Center, Fort Myers, Fla., following major surgery.

She was born in Vermilion Lake Township to Peter and Helia Hiltunen. She graduated from Embarrass High School in 1951. After working at J.C. Penney in Virginia, she moved to Detroit in 1954, where she worked as a bookkeeper-accountant. She married Richard Essenmacher in 1976. After his death in 1993, she moved to Fort Myers, where she became active as a volunteer office worker for her church and sang in its choir.

Elizabeth is remembered for her great sense of humor and her ability to make friends with ease.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; brothers Victor, Ray and Leo Hiltunen; and two infant brothers.

She is survived by her sisters Mavis (John) Biesanz of San Jose, Costa Rica, and Mabel (Henry) Bradach of Babbitt; a brother, G. Robert Hiltunen of Woodbury, Minn.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorial services: were held Aug. 3 in Fort Myers. Inurnment at later date in Vermilion Lake Cemetery
