Demetra Soubas, 90, of Charlottesville, died on Wednesday, September 14, 2011, at Martha Jefferson House.

She was born on August 7, 1921, in Albany, New York, the daughter of the late Thomas Soubas and Georgia Korkosas Soubas. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Peter; and sisters, Mary Soubas, Sophia Thomas and her husband, Charlie, and Pauline Soubas.

Demetra worked as a manager for the Carey Winston Company in Washington, D.C., for over forty years. She was a life long member of the Greek Orthodox Church of Metamorphosis Soteros. She was also a member of the Ladies Progressive Society of the Greek Orthodox Church and sang in the church choir. Demetra was a hard-working person who loved her church and lived her faith. She was devoted to her family and friends and was loved by all who knew her. She will be greatly missed. She is survived by her sister, Reketta Soubas; and cousins Edith Hatzikotelis, Billy Cokes; and many other cousins and friends.

A funeral service was held Saturday, September 17, 2011, at the Greek Orthodox Church, 100 Perry Drive, Charlottesville, VA 22902, with Father Peter Rexinis officiating. Interment followed at Riverview Cemetery.

The family received friends at Hill and Wood Funeral Home Friday, September 16, 2011, with a prayer service beginning at 7 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Greek Orthodox Church.
