William E. "Bill" Alvey, 85, of Evansville, formerly of Jasper, Ind., passed away on Sunday, December 13, 2009, at Deaconess Gateway Hospital. Bill served in the Air Force during World War II as an aircraft engineer serving in the European Theatre. He was a graduate of Lockyear Business College and was a computer programmer for Kent Plastics for over 20 years. Following his years at Kent Plastics, Bill was self-employed as a computer programmer. He attended St. John's Catholic Church in Newburgh, Ind. Bill lived at Atria Assisted Living where he was a Resident Ambassador. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Rita Alvey; daughter, Barb Butler and husband, Don, of Newburgh; sons, Bill Alvey of Jasper and Brian Alvey and wife, Beth, of Taswell, Ind.; grandchildren, Kim Cecil, Kristi Kain, Scott Alvey and Courtney Adkins; great-grandchildren, Jonah and Claire Cecil, Megan and Dylan Kain, Alyssa Alvey and Savannah Adkins; stepgrandchildren, Ashley Jellison and Kade Meredith; brothers, Jim Alvey of Evansville and Dan Alvey of Indianapolis; sister, Ginny Schnur of Chandler, Ind., and Betty Meyer of Evansville. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Otha and Georgie Alvey, and a brother, Willis Alvey, and a granddaughter, Erica Butler. Visitation 2 to 8 p.m. (CST) Tuesday, December 15, at Ziemer Funeral Home East Chapel, 800 S. Hebron Ave., Evansville, with a memorial service being held at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue on Wednesday, December 16, from 9:30 to 10 a.m. at St. John's Catholic Church, 625 Frame Rd., Newburgh, IN. Services 10 a.m. Wednesday, December 16, at St. John's Catholic Church, with Father Joseph Ziliak and Father Ted Temple officiating. Entombment will be in St. Joseph Mausoleum. Memorial contribution may be made to a favorite charity.
