Rev. Dr. Nathan Bangs was the son of Lemuel and Rebecca (Keeler) Bangs. He was the husband of Mary (Bolton) Bangs. They were married April 23, 1806. Mary died May 16, 1864. Rev. Dr. Bangs was a minister in the Methodist Episcopal Church: New York Conference 1802 F 1804 Genesee (Western New York/ now Upper New York) Conference by transfer 1812 New York Conference by transfer 1813. He was editor of Methodist Magazine and Methodist Quarterly Review in the 1820s. He was the founder of Methodist Missionary Society circa 1830. He was acting president of Wesleyan University, Middletown, Connecticut in 1841.
