Mrs Jessie Hakes, wife of Charles Hakes, died at their home, five miles northeast of town, at half past twelve o'clock this morning, after a year's sickness from throat and stomach trouble, during only the last week of which she was confined to her bed. She was aged 37 years, 10 months and 22 days. Mrs Hakes was a daughter of Samuel Gorman and was an excellent woman whose death is mourned by many friends. She leaves, besides her husband, two daughters, Dona, aged seventeen, and Hazel, aged three. Funeral services will be held tomorrow morning at ten o'clock, at the home, conducted by Dr T.C. Smith. Interment will take place in the Clarinda cemetery.

Mrs. Jessie Gorman-Hakes died early Friday morning, Sept, 28, 1900, at her home northeast of the city, aged 37 years, 10 months and 22 days from stomach trouble. Mrs. Hakes had been sick for several months and an operation performed last spring it was thought would prolong her life. She was a kind wife and devoted mother and loved by all who knew her. She leaves a husband and several children. The funeral took place at 10 o'clock Saturday, conducted by Rev. T. C. Smith, and her remains interred in Clarinda cemetery.
