A direct descendent of original settlers in Jackson Township,he created " The Bottle Farm",in Farmersville,Ohio. After his death the 22 acre farm was left to the village of Farmersville to be used as a park for the happiness of children. Artist, eccentric. Mr. Swartsel's tombstone is located in the very center of the cemetery.

Enter from Route 725, the only entrance. Go right down the middle. In the center of the cemetery, you come to an "intersection." It is circular and there are benches, I believe. He and his wife's grave is on your right, very close to the road.

The man truly was an eccentric. I recall my folks talking about him.

His niece was Sara Swartsel, who donated her 220 acre farm, outside Gratis, Ohio, to the Preble County Historical Society. It is located just off Route 122 northwest of Gratis. Her farm is about 10 miles west of Germantown. She is buried in the Fairview Cemetery on the west side of Gratis.
