He married Floy Elsie Wood (age: 25) on August 22, 1912, in Parke County, Indiana. He was age 58. Their children are James Everett and Kenneth Russell. Floy and James separated in January 1919. Their divorce was final, in September 1919, just after Kenneth was born. Floy died in 1925. Everett and Kenneth were raised by their grandmother, Margaret Brownlow (Jacks) Wood.
