Ella Whitley

Athens - Ella P. Whitley, age 97, died August 20, 2004 at Athens Heritage Nursing Home. She was born in Athens October 12, 1906, to the late Pete Petropol and Bessie Hudson Petropol. After her marriage to Martin Whitley she moved to Toccoa where she resided until her husband¹s death in 1990.
Mrs. Whitley attended Lucy Cobb Institute and the State Normal College for Women in Athens. In Toccoa she was an active member of the First Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her twin sister, Stella Chesnut.
Survivors include two sons, Hudson Whitley of Athens and James Whitley of Atlanta; two grandchildren, Hudson Whitley Jr. of Sharpsburg, Georgia, and Mrs. Joseph A. Hepp of Delray Beach, Florida. She is also survived by three great-grandhildren and a niece, Mrs. Thomas Lawrie of Savannah.
A graveside services will be held today, 2 p.m. at Oconee Hill Cemetery, with the Rev. Jon Appleton officiating.
Bridges Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.
