1st. Lt. Andres Zermeno, 26, of San Antonio, Texas, died Sep. 25 in Wardak province, Afghanistan, of wounds suffered when enemy forces attacked his unit with a rocket propelled grenade. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 4th Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division, Fort. Polk, La. Andres was born in Texas and moved to San Antonio, Texas in 2003 to attend St. Mary's University and begin his military life. While at St. Mary's University he served in the Texas National Guard, in ROTC, and was a member of Lambda Chi Alpha. Upon graduation he was commissioned into the U.S. Army in December 2008. In 2007 he met and married the love of his life while pursuing his degree and they have two beautiful children. 1Lt Zermeno is survived by his wife Rachel, son, Steven Andres, daughter, Madeline Alicia, father Juan, mother, Dolores, sister Isabel, brothers, Juan, Joaquin and Adrian, father-in-law David Smith, mother-in-law Terresa Smith, brother-in-law Daniel Smith, and numerous family members and friends. 1Lt Zermeno was killed in action while serving in Afghanistan as part of the 2nd Battalion, 4th Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division, Ft.
