John married Maria Rinke on January 20, 1880 in Germany. The following year they both immigrated to the United States. They lived first in Union Hill (Union City) and then in North Bergen. John was a carpenter and helped build St. Michael's Monastery in Union City. He was the first sexton of Holy Family Church in Union City. They had six children; Anna, Agnes, Julius, Leonard J., John Joseph and Maria (Mary) Veronika.
