Henry Siegel passed away peacefully in his home on Sept. 28, 2011, after fighting a long battle with cancer.

Henry was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., on April 15, 1926, to Samuel and Sophie Siegel, and was the youngest of two boys. He graduated from Jefferson High School in 1944 and served in the U.S. Army from 1944-46 during WWII. While in the Army, he saw heavy combat in Central Europe and in the Rhineland campaigns and was awarded the combat infantry badge and bronze star.

After serving out his time in the military, Henry returned home and settled back into civilian life joining the U.S. Postal Service in Brooklyn. Henry met Marilyn Wiener at Brickman's Hotel in the Catskill Mountains in the summer of 1950, and they were married on July 3, 1951.

While in Brooklyn, to support a growing family of four children, he held down several jobs, including a retail business he ran together with his brother Leon. Henry and Marilyn moved the family out to Tucson, Ariz., in 1967 seeking a better life for his family beyond the boundaries of New York City. Transferring jobs within the Postal Service, the family settled into the east side of Tucson and later moved to the Catalina foothills raising his family, including sending four children to college, before finally moving to Prescott in 1997 to enjoy his retirement years. Once in Prescott, he became affiliated with Temple B'rith Shalom and served as treasurer for the synagogue for a period of time.

Henry was a kind and gentle soul whose priority in life was supporting his family, helping them in any what he could to succeed. What characterized Henry the most was his easygoing nature, his strong work ethic, his unique sense of humor, his love for his family and abundance of friends. One of his passions was being involved with the University of Arizona football and basketball programs.

Henry lived a good life retiring from the Postal Service at the age of 64. During his retirement years, he and Marilyn traveled around the world to such places as Europe, Canada, the Caribbean, Alaska and Asia. He also took the time during these retirement years to spend special time with his sons on their annual father-son trips visiting places such as Sedona, Yosemite, Lake Tahoe, Sonoma, Colorado Springs, Santa Fe and Bend, Ore.

Henry is survived by his wife Marilyn; daughter Heidi Lawrence and her husband Charlie of Prescott; sons Jeffrey Siegel and wife Jessica of Los Gatos, Calif., Eric Siegel and wife Carin of San Diego and David Siegel and wife Linda of Gilbert; his 10 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren, who will all miss him a great deal.

Graveside services are 1 p.m. Friday, Sept. 30, 2011, at Heritage Memorial Park, 12000 E. Heritage Lane, Dewey, Ariz.
