"Andrew Mattison was one of New Germany's longest time business men and a civic Leader. He entered business in this village in 1899, at the age of 22 years.
He was born on February 18, 1877 on a farm three miles southeast of this village and was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Bertraam Mattison. At age twenty-two he left the farm and entered the general merchandise business in partnership with Albert Groenke, buying Mr. Stern's share in the Groenke-Stern partnership. The following year he sold his interest to Mr. Groenke and in turn bought the Louis Karels property consisting of a store, and opened a general merchandise business as sole owner. He continued in this business until 1919. During this time he conducted a stock shipping business in connection with his general merchandise business.
From 1919 until 1933 he devoted his time to farming his land which joined the village and conducted a culvert business for many years. In 1933 he also started to devote considerable time to the Mattison Chevrolet Service Company, in which he had a financial interest.
For three years he served the village as recorder and for eight years he held the office of councilman. For fifteen years he served Camden Township in the capacity of Justice of Peace. When New Germany separated from Camden Township, he continued as Justice of Peace for the Village for many years and presided over hundreds of cases.
His marriage to Ida Schmidt of Lester Prairie was blessed with five children. Mrs. Mattison was the first editor of the New Germany Department of the Lester Prairie News."

Shares headstone with Ida, & Bertram Mattison.
