Hugh Verle Denton was born on 28 Sepember 1920 in Del Norte, Rio Grande, Colorado to Elijah Thomas and Mary Ester Turnbull Denton. He joined the Marines during World War II and was killed in action on Saipan in the Mariana Islands on the 19 June 1944. He was orignally buried in Saipan but later brought back to Colorado and buried at Del Norte Cemetery in the family plot where his father is also buried.
