Virginia C. Antrobus (Ginnie) died on April 30, 2011 at Care Center of Rossmoor in Walnut Creek from a lengthy illness that was a result of a fall at her long time home in Pittsburg. She was 88 years old.
She is survived by her son Kevin B. Antrobus, daughter-in-law Marsha L. Antrobus, grandchildren Erin M. Alonso (husband Mike), Eric M. Kelly, Elise M. Antrobus, great-grandson James Alonso, Nephews Dr. Michael Ringer, Patrick Ringer, Nieces Christine Ringer, Linda Fitzmorris, and Diana Ringer as well as many greatly loved cousins.
Ginnie was born in Ione, CA and was a descendant of Amador County Pioneers including the Ringer, Hill, Touhey, Ryan and Rafferty families. They owned ranches and farms at Ione, Mt. Echo, Buena Vista, Jackson Valley, near Lake Camanche, and north of Pardee Dam. She was the daughter of Harrison Ringer and Pauline Touhey Ringer. She grew up loving to ride horseback through Amador County, particularly riding in summer up to the Pardee area. She graduated from Ione Union High School in 1939 and was class Valedictorian. She received her undergraduate degree at Dominican College in San Raphael with a major in Economics. Her post graduate education took place at Stanford University Graduate School of Business in Palo Alto under the auspices of the Engineering Science and Management War Training Program.
In 1943, she was one of the first women hired in a management position by Columbia Steel Company (later United States Steel) and was assigned to the Pittsburg, California plant as an Installation Engineer in the Production Planning Department. In 1947, she married Joseph Earl Antrobus, a pharmacist and partner in the Keller-McDermott chain of drug stores.
Ginnie enjoyed golf, boating, fishing, attending ball games, and musical and theatrical entertainments. She loved gardening, flower arrangements, interior decorating, reading biographies, following the stock market and, most importantly, her family.
She was very active in her community. She was a charter member of Court Mary Margaret #1450 of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas. She was very active in the Womens Club of the late Pittsburg Golf and Country Club. She spent many years participating in parent projects at St. Peter Martyr School and at Pittsburg Senior High School. She participated in the formation of CYO in Pittsburg. She was also very active for many years in Thrift Shop for the Mount Diablo Rehabilitation Center (the Wrens).
Ginnie was preceded in death by her husband Joseph E. Antrobus (1993) and her sons Joseph E. ANTROBUS Jr. (1949) and David H. Antrobus M.D. (1995). She was also preceded in death by her brother Norman Ringer M.D. (2007).
