Velma Rose Vail Blacklock, 65, of Nampa, died Thursday, Aug. 13, in a Boise hospital of natural causes. Mrs. Blacklock was born June 8, 1922, at Goodland, Kan., to Arthur and Elnora Vail. At the age of 7, she moved with her family to Nampa, where she attended the Northwest Nazarene Academy and public schools. She graduated from Northwest Nazarene College. In 1944, she enlisted in the U.S. Navy. She attended a school for cooks and bakers in New York and was later assigned to duty as a baker at the repair base in San Diego. She married Glen Blacklock May 23, 1945. She was honorably discharged from the service in November 1945. In 1950 they returned to Nampa to make their home. She taught school in Nampa and Caldwell for 12 years. She was an active member of the College Church of the Nazarene for a number of years. She enjoyed working at the Nazarene Care House in Nampa, helping distribute food and clothing to the needy.
She is survived by her husband of Nampa; a son and daughter-in-law, Al and Karen Blacklock of Boise; a daughter and son-in-law, Ann and Gary Waller of Kent, Wash.; three brother, Marion Vail of Nampa, Harley Vail of Mexico and Virgil Vail of San Diego, Calif.; a sister, Lois McWaters of Meridian; four grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by three brother, Charles, Oren and Elmore Vail; and a sister, Zola Wikstrom.
