"Death of T.B. Crary. A Veteran Passes Away at His Home in Hominy. T.B. Crary, a long-time resident of Buncombe, died at 3:15 this morning at his home on Hominy creek at the age of 68. Mr. Crary was an ex-Confederate soldier, and a native of Ohio. He moved to North Carolina in 1876, had lived in Asheville most of the time since then, and was well known and liked here. His wife and 5 children survive. The children are: W. A. Crary of Hendersonville, T.B. Crary of Brevard, O.T. Crary, a member of company B. First N.C. regiment, now at Havana, Mrs. Roxie Parker and Mrs. Ella Young of South Hominy. The funeral services will be conducted at the Aeton Methodist church tomorrow at 11 a.m., by Rev. Joseph Hawkins, and the interment will be in the Aeton cemetery." - Asheville Daily Citizen, Asheville, N.C. Thursday Evening, January 26, 1899
Truman Bishop, Sr was a brick mason and brick maker who traveled from Ohio by boat to New Orleans. He joined the Confederate Army in Blakely, AL as an Infantryman(38th Regiment, Company K) but was detached to work on various brick projects. He married three times and had six children: John W. by first wife (Virginia Bonifay) and Roxanna, William A., Emma, Truman Bishop, Jr., Oliver Thomas and Ella Elizabeth with wife, Mary Elizabeth Eaton.
