Amy Norton was born in Edgartown, Dukes, Massachusetts to Enoch and Haphzibah (Daggett) Norton. Amy and Seth were distant Norton cousins. Amy's grandfather Joseph Daggett/Doggett m. Alice Sisseton/Alece Sessetom, in 1668 according to the "U. S. New England Marriages prior to 1700". Amy's grandmother was listed as an "Indian Woman" in the records. Grandmother Alice was the daughter of Sub-Sachem Autumsquim, of the Wampanoag tribe or people of the East. They inhabited their lands for an estimated 10,000 to 13,000 years. This amazing Pioneering Woman accompanied her husband, along with their three children, Elihu, Amy Emma and Abraham "Abram" Norton, to a very far away place in the Massachusetts Bay Colony, Washington County, Maine. Amy and Seth had four more children, born in Addison, Washington County. Amy died 2 1/2 months before her husband.
