Donald E. Schiele, 65, of Grand Forks, ND passed away Tuesday, September 20, 2011 at his home of natural causes.

Donald Edward Schiele was born December 1, 1945 in Devils Lake, ND, the son of Philip and Emelia (Tuscherer) Schiele. He was raised on a farm near Crary, ND and graduated from St. Mary's Academy, Devils Lake in 1963. He attended Lake Region State College and North Dakota State University graduating from there in 1967 with a degree in Mathematics.

He entered the United States Air Force on December 20, 1968 in Fargo, ND and flew many combat missions as a navigator on AC-141 aircraft during the Viet Nam War. He was honorably discharged from military service on June 30, 1973 at Brooks Air Force Base in San Antonio, TX. He returned to Devils Lake and resided there for several years. In 1975, he moved to Grand Forks and established and operated Dakota Programs for 25 years.

Donald married Kathryn Henn on August 26, 1989 in Holy Family Catholic Church, Grand Forks, ND. He was an active member of Holy Family Catholic Church and the Grand Forks Optimist Club and enjoyed computer programming and collecting post cards.

He is survived by his wife, Kathryn; a son, Seth (fiancée, Brittni Swendseid) Schiele, Grand Forks, ND; a brother, James (Luann) Schiele, Devils Lake, ND; sisters, Rose (Tim) Senger, Devils Lake, ND, Agnes (James) Nelson, Devils Lake, ND, Kathy Kirkeby, West Fargo, ND; many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Philip Schiele; a sister, Mary Ellen Martin and 3 infant brothers.

Mass of Christian Burial: 10:30 a.m. Saturday, September 24, 2011 in Holy Family Catholic Church, Grand Forks, ND.

Visitation: 5 to 7 p.m. Friday with a 7:00 p.m. vigil service in the Gregory J. Norman Funeral Chapel, 2950 S. Washington St. Visitation will continue for one hour prior to the liturgy in the church on Saturday.

Burial: Calvary Cemetery South, Grand Forks, ND.

Military Honors: Members of the American Legion Post 157, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3817 and the North Dakota National Guard.
