CYCLONE — Dixie Nutter, 88, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, October 8, 2011, at Logan Regional Medical Center surrounded by her loving family following a long illness. Mrs. Nutter was a homemaker, the last survivor of her immediate family. She loved attending Toler Baptist Church, enjoyed listening to gospel music, but most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family.

Born April 30, 1923, in Cyclone she was the daughter of the late John Harvey Elkins (1888-1965) & Anna Laura Miller-Elkins (1891-Deceased). In addition to her parents she was preceded her husband, Roy Edward Nutter (1924-1976) whom she married on November 29, 1949 in Elizabeth, Wirt County, WV (per WV Marriage License Register, Wirt County, WV, 1949, Page 413, Application Date: November 9, 1949); a son, Russell Nutter (Deceased); grandson, Harold Crouse (Deceased); a step-grandson, Brian Cobb (Deceased); three brothers, Buster Elkins (1917-Deceased), Calvin Elkins (1927-Deceased) and Herbert "Hoover" Elkins (1929-Deceased); a half brother, Burton Gibson (1914-Deceased); four sisters, Vonda Elkins-Maynor (1921-Deceased), Icy M. Elkins-Aliff (1915-Deceased), and twin sisters, Mary Elkins (Deceased) and Martha Elkins (Deceased); and a half sister, Edith Blankenship (Deceased).

Those left to cherish her memory are three sons, Donald "Wilkie" Elkins (1940-2018) of Oak Hill, Homer "Ed" Nutter & wife Mary Nutter of Oceana and Franklin Maynor Nutter (1959-2020) of Ansted; three daughters, Nancy Nutter-Gibson of Cyclone, Wanda Nutter-Cobb & husband Jerry Cobb of Davin and Dorothy Nutter-Brooks of Kopperston; eighteen grandchildren; twenty five great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and a host of family and friends.

A celebration of Mrs. Nutter's life will be 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 12, 2011, at Toler Baptist Church at Cyclone with Rev. Clarence Gibson, Rev. Roland Cook and Rev. Merl Walls officiating. Mrs. Nutter will be laid to rest in Palm Memorial Gardens, Matheny.
