Henry Bennett, 81 Dies in Sanitarium

Henry Bennett, 81, Watertown, died May 22, 1947 in the Jefferson County Sanatarium, where he had been a patient since April 17.

Funeral services were held at the Reed and Benoit funeral home with Rev. Lisle B. Caldwell pastor of Bethany Methodist church, officiating. Burial was in North Watertown cemetery.

Survivors, besides Mrs. Bennett, are a son, Clifford E. Bennett, of Copenhagen, and two brothers, Edginton Bennett, of Watertown, and Stephen B. Bennett, of Napanee, Ont. He also leaves nieces and nephews.

Mr. Bennett married twice. His first marriage was in Canada, to Anna Snyder Bennett who died in Watertown in 1930 at the age of 68. The marriage took place at Verona, Ont., April 21, 1891.

The former Mrs. Edith Benn Slack, who survives, became the wife of Mr. Bennett in 1939. Their marriage took place May 14, 1939, at the home of Mr. and Mrs. John Benn, Forest Mills, Ont.

Mr. Bennett was born Aug 13, 1866, at Storms' Corners, Ont, and first came to Watertown at the age of 20, in 1885. He later operated a farm in South Rutland but returned to Watertown after his retirement 20 years ago, in 1927.

The Bennetts also lived in Sandy Creek about two years; purchasing a home on South Main Street which he later sold to Charles Hogan.
