Mary (Hoffmann) Majeres was born on Tuesday, August 19, 1856, on a farm near St. Donatus, Jackson County, IA, the daughter of Karl and Susanna (Lux) Hoffmann.

In 1876 Mary married Frank Majeres at a Roman Catholic church in St. Donatus.

Mary grew up in Jackson County, IA, and attended schools in the neighborhood.

After the marriage, the couple moved to Plymouth County and settled on an 80-acre farm one mile north of Oyens, IA, which they bought. They were among the earliest settlers there. They later added to the farm by purchasing adjoining land, until in later years they owned one of the best half-sections in northwest Iowa.

Mary and Frank lived on the farm until 1912, when they retired and moved into the nearby town of Remsen, Plymouth County, IA. They built a home in Remsen and lived there until their deaths nearly 20 years later.

Mary and Frank celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary by giving each of their children $100 in gold and celebrated their anniversary with a cake in the shape of a lamb with a gold banner.

Mary was a member of Remsen St. Mary's Catholic Church and a member of the Christian Mothers society for more than 50 years.

Mary and Frank had 7 sons and 5 daughters, Johanna (1878-1878), Nicholas (1879-1962), John (1880-1938), Ferdinand (1881-1883), Margaret (1883-1924), Charles (1884-1944), Frank (1886-1886), John (1887-1887), Theresa (1888-1966) Joe (1890-1966), Clara (1892-1968), and Clementine (1897-1986).

Mary was in failing health for the last four years of her life. For several weeks two years before her death, her condition was extremely grave, but she rallied and regained sufficient strength to be up and about as usual. Nevertheless, the effects of her severe sickness left her in a generally weakened condition, and she never fully regained her health.

Mary, 74, died at 7:00 a.m. on Tuesday, March 10, 1931, in the family home in Remsen. Her death was attributed to a general weakness, with pneumonia and other complications arising in the last two weeks of her life. A 9:30 funeral Mass – said by Fathers H. J. Schleier, H. Rolfes, and P. M. Mattes - was held at Remsen St. Mary's Church March 12. Mary was then buried at St. Mary's Cemetery, Remsen.
