Child, Abijah, Jr. Born Sept. 3, 1749; died Dec. 22, 1818. The record index to the military archives found in the office of the secretary of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, Boston, shows that Abijah Child, jr., appears with rank of private on muster and pay roll of Capt. Abijah Child's company, Col. Thomas Gardiner's regiment, dated August 1, 1775. Enlisted Apr. 30, 1775; time of service, 91 days; town to which he belonged was Waltham; reported sick, absent. Later he appeared as private on company return of Capt. Child's company, Lieut. Col. Bond's (thirty-seventh) regiment, dated at Prospect Hill, Oct. 6, 1775. Dated Prospect Hill, Dec. 2, 1775, his name appeared to an order for a bounty coat or its equivalent in money, due on account of service in Capt. Abijah Child's company, Col. William Bond's (late Col. Gardner's) regiment. His name appears also on a return of Capt. Abijah Child's company, Col. John Greaton's (second) regiment, and also as a private on Continental Army pay accounts of Capt. Child's company, Greaton's regiment, from Feb. 1, 1777, to Sept. 5, 1777.
