The death of Mrs. Michael Howell, mother of J. H. and George Howell, took place at the J. H. Howell home on Tuesday. Funeral services will be held Friday morning.

There will be a solemn High Mass, said by her grandson, Father J. W. Howell of Dubuque College assisted by Father Nolan as Deacon and Father Eardly of Belmond as Sub-deacon. Father Eardly will preach the sermon.

The pall-bearers are chosen from among the grandsons and will be Frank Scott, Chicago, Ill.; Dr. George H. Coleman, Chicago, Ill.; George T. Howell, Sterling, Ill., Harold Howell, Sterling, Ill.; C. G. Howell, Racine, Wis.; George Donegan, Eagle Grove.

Miss Julia Miles was born in Milestown, County Louth [Meath], Ireland, March 25th, 1828—Died May 11th, 1915, aged 87 years, 1 month, 16 days. She was married in New York City, September 7th, 1851 to Michael Howell. There were ten children born, six of whom are living, George E. Howell, Sterling, Ill.; Mrs. Julia Scott, Chicago, Ill.; Mrs. Catherine E. Coleman, Chicago, Ill.; Miss Emma Howell, Cherokee, Iowa; Mrs. Margaret Donegan, Eagle Grove, Iowa; and J. H. Howell, Eagle Grove, Iowa.

She has been totally blind during the past 35 years of her life, was a very devout Catholic all her life and considering her years in darkness was patient and cheerful beyond measure.

Michael Howell died July 14th, 1900 [1901], at the age of 77.

After Long Life of Vigor, Activity, and Happiness, Mrs. Michael Howell Surrenders to the Grim Reaper.

Miss Julia Miles was born in Milestown County Louth [Meath], Ireland, March 25, 1828, and died at the home of her son J. H. Howell, Tuesday morning, May 11, 1915, aged 87 years, 1 month, and 16 days.

She was married to Michael Howell, September 7, 1851, in New York City, and about one year later went to Elgin, Ill., where they lived until they came to Eagle Grove, about 1866 [1888]. Mr. Howell died here July 14, 1900 [1901], at the age of 77 years and the interment was in Calvary cemetery.

To this union ten children were born, six of whom survive her death, Geo. E. Howell of Sterling, Ill.; Mrs. Julia Scott, Chicago; Mrs. Catharine Coleman, Chicago; Miss Emma Howell, Cherokee, Ia.; Mrs. Margaret Donegan and J. H. Howell of Eagle Grove.

The deceased lost her eye sight 35 years ago and has been totally blind to the time of her death. Since the death of her husband, she has made her home with her daughter Mrs. Donegan and her son J. H. Howell of this city.

She leaves thirty grandchildren and two great grandchildren. She took great comfort in these children and grandchildren, and had the warm affection of them all.

Through all the years of her affliction in the loss of her sight she was always cheerful, patient and kind, thoughtful for all but herself. She was a faithful and devoted member of the Catholic church and the funeral will be held in Sacred Heart church, Friday morning at 9:30. Solemn High Mass will be conducted by her grandson, Rev. Father J. W. Howell of Dubuque, assisted by Rev. Father Nolan as Deacon and Father Eardly of Belmond as Sub-Deacon. The sermon will be given by Father Eardly.

The pall bearers will all be grandsons of the deceased: Frank Scott and Dr. J. H. Coleman of Chicago, Geo. I. and Harold Howell of Sterling, Ill., C. G. Howell of Racine Wis., and Geo. Donegan of Eagle Grove. The interment will be in Calvary cemetery.
