Thomas J. Harris, a pioneer resident of Greene and Christian counties, was born in Greene county on April 25, 1855, and departed this life on May 11, 1940 at the age of 85 years and 16 days.

He was united in marriage with Margaret E. Payne and to this union were born seven sons and two daughters. He was preceded in death by his wife, one son and one daughter.

He was a member of the Baptist church for many years and a long time resident of Christian county.

His survivors include six sons, Garland, Richard, Gabe and Lige, all of Ozark, Robert of Fordland, and Bert of Highlandville; one daughter, Mrs. Maggie Keyser of Highlandville; two half-brothers, Blev Harris of Marionville and Lee Harris, Springfield; two half-sisters, Mrs. Bettie Tillman of Rogersville and Mrs. Annie Lehman of Springfield. He is also survived by 22 grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Monday, May 12, 1940, at 2 p.m. at the Payne cemetery north of Nixa with the Rev. Floyd Hanks of Ozark officiating. Interment was made in the Payne Cemetery under the direction of the B.C. Klepper Funeral Home of Ozark.
