Judge James Clemson, Husband of Margaret Heard. Said to have been a subscriber to the first stone church built for this congregation in 1753.

Revolutionary War Patriot

Justice of the peace and judge of the Court of Common Pleas in Lancaster County, May 23, 1770. He was an early advocate of American Independence, and was elected a member of the Committee of Observation and Defense for Lancaster County, Dec 15, 1774. He was appointed Jan 14, 1775, by the Lancaster Committee of Inspection, a deputy to the Provincial Convention held in Philadelphia, Jan 28, 1775. As a member of the Committee of Observation he was present at a meeting held in Lancaster May 15, 1775.

James Clemson was a member of Captain David Whitehill's Company of Salisbury Township, 1777, which formed part of the Seventh Battalion of Lancaster County Militia. He was a member of the PA Assembly in 1777-1779, and was commissioned a justice of the peace for Lancaster County, July 27, 1790.
