Rites Friday For Mrs. ABBEY

Mrs. Katie A. ABBEY, 87, wife of Elmer B. ABBEY, a retired Fairfield blacksmith, passed away at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday evening, Dec. 29, at the Van Buren Memorial hospital in Keosauqua where she had been a patient for one day. She had been in failing health for several months. Mr. and Mrs. ABBEY had been making their home in a Nursing Home in Keosauqua. Their Fairfield home was at 205 E. Grimes. Mr. ABBEY had been a blacksmith in Fairfield for over 50 years before his retirement.

Funeral services will be held Friday, Dec. 31, at 2 p.m. at the Weston Behner Funeral home with Rev. Donald L. Hickman in charge. Burial will be in Memorial Lawn cemetery.

Mrs. ABBEY was born Nov. 29, 1878 in Galena, Ill., the daughter of John and Katie WILLIAMS. She was married to Elmer B. ABBEY Jan. 28, 1897. Besides her husband she is survived by three sons, Earl E. and Donald B. ABBEY of Fairfield and Allen ABBEY of Riviera Beach, Fla.; one daughter, Mrs. Elizabeth HOOTMAN of Cedar Rapids. She also leaves 14 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren, and 7 great great grandchildren and two brothers, Arthur WILLIAMS of Webster City and Lloyd WILLIAMS of Huron, S.D. She was preceded in death by nine brothers and sisters, one son and one daughter.
