Earl ABBEY

Earl E. ABBEY, 77, 204 E. Fillmore, died Wednesday at 10:45 p.m. at the Ottumwa Hospital. He had been in failing health the past several years and seriously ill the past two weeks.

The service will be Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at the Behner Funeral Home with the Rev. D.O. Van Dyne officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday from 7 to 8 p.m.

The son of Elmer and Katie WILLIAMS ABBEY, he was born Nov. 14, 1902, at Mount Etna, Iowa. On June 19, 1920, he was married to Fanchon WILSON in Fairfield.

ABBEY owned the Abbey Shop for 43 years where he was a blacksmith and welder and also repaired lawn mowers.

He was a member of the Suburban Heights Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, two sons, Earl ABBEY Jr., Fairfield, and Bruce ABBEY, Boone, 10 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

He is also survived by one sister, Elizabeth HOOTMAN, San Denito, Texas and one brother, Allen ABBEY, Davenport.

He was preceded in death by one son, two brothers and one sister.
