Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 23, at Thompson Funeral Home Chapel in Orangeburg, with the Rev. Fred McDaniel and the Rev. Ralph "Pete" Lovern officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery in Orangeburg, directed by Thompson Funeral Home Inc. of Orangeburg.
Mrs. Deese was born Feb. 10, 1950, in Orangeburg, the daughter of the late Herman Griffis and the late Lucille Lovern Griffis. She was previously employed by the S.C. Cotton Mill, Atlas Food Systems and Service, and Tee Pak. She was a member of St. John's United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by brothers and sisters, Emory, Patsy, Joe, Sandra, Sybil and Diane.
Survivors include her husband, Mr. Hazel T. Deese of Lancaster; three daughters, Mrs. Jerry (Tammy) Moody, Mrs. Eddie (Lucy) Riley, all of Orangeburg, Mrs. George (Tracy) Hutto of Tallassee, Ala.; two sons, Rodney (Caroline) Hughes of Cordova, Chad (Crystal) Hughes of Orangeburg; nine grandchildren, Matthew Hughes, Tyaila Gilmore, Little Rodney Hughes, Jabarie Hughes, Johnathan Hughes, Channing Hughes, Mason Hughes, Jerkobie Moody, Jakayla Hughes; four great grandchildren; sisters and brothers, Mrs. Dan (Loretta) Warner of Orangeburg, Walt Griffin of Orangeburg, Mrs. Archie (Betty) Braxton of St. George and Danny (Betty) Griffin of Orangeburg.
