Rebecca Evans Burkhalter, age 72, of Northport, died Nov. 13, 2010, at Hospice of West Alabama. Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Shiloh Free Will Baptist Church in Gordo with Rev. Randy Key and Rev. Tim Baumgarten officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Magnolia Chapel Funeral Home North directing. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. tonight at the funeral home. The body will lie in state one hour prior to services at the church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, J.C. and Myrtle Evans.
Survivors include her sweetheart and husband of 23 years, Wilford Burkhalter; a sister, Sadie Bush; a brother, James Evans (Betty); and many nieces and nephews.
Rebecca was indeed a true servant of God. With a phone call or a card she ministered to her friends and family continuously, never missing an opportunity to let someone know she was thinking of them. She could light up a room with her smile, and always had an encouraging word.
Pallbearers will be Tim Bush, Jay Collins, Jamie Presley, Richard Hayes, Donald Hayes, and David Burkhalter.
Honorary pallbearers are the Holt High School Class of 1956, the Gordo High School Class of 1947, the ACCU and 6th floor staff at DCH Regional Medical Center, Hospice of West Alabama, neighbors of Brookside Dr., and Mr. and Mrs. Larry Cantrell.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the charity of one's choice.
