Son of Charles Noel Somerset, 4th Duke of Beaufort, and Elizabeth Berkeley. Paternal grandson of Henry Somerset, 2nd Duke of Beaufort, and Lady Rachel Noel. Maternal grandson of John Symes Berkeley and Elizabeth Norborne.
Henry married Elizabeth Boscawen in 1766. She was the daughter of Admiral Rt. Hon. Edward Boscawen and Frances Glanville.
Their marriage produced a large family of nine sons and four daughters.
He was succeeded by his eldest son, Henry Charles.
