EDNA - Robert C. "Bob" Cooper, 85, of rural Edna, Kan., died early Saturday, Jan. 22, 2005, at his home. His death was unexpected.

He was born Aug. 24, 1919, at rural Edna to Shelby Franklin Cooper and Daisy Dean (Rhodes) Cooper. He attended the Trenton School. He began farming until entering the United States Army during World War II. He served from 1941 to 1945. He was in the 635th tank destroyer battalion spending time in Normandy, Northern France, Germany and Central Europe.

On March 26, 1949, he married Martha L. Hayes at the First Baptist Church parsonage in Edna. She survives. They made their home in the Edna area, eventually moving to the farm where he was born and raised. He made his living as a farmer and carpenter.

Survivors include his wife Martha, residing at Windsor Place, Coffeyville, Kan.; two sons, Donald Cooper and his wife Chris, Corpus Christi, Texas; Jim Cooper and his wife, LouAnn, Edna; one daughter, Janie Banzet and husband, Allen, Edna; four grandchildren, Gail Banzet, Jill Banzet, Anthony Cooper and Lindsay Cooper; numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Paul, who died as a child, J.R., Fred and Ed Cooper. He was also preceded in ddeath by three sisters, Eva Pritchard, Ethel Swope and Ruby McIntyre.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, Jan. 26, at the First Baptist Church in Edna with Rev. Ted Swope officiating. Burial was in the North Edna Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Gideon's International to purchase bibles.
