He was born near Otterbein in Benton County, Indiana on December 11, 1924 to the late Samuel and Icie Pearl Wilkinson Coffman. He married Jean M. Oneal at Oxford, Indiana on May 26, 1951 and she survives.
Also surviving are her daughters, Karen Culross, Cheri (Tom) Cooper and Jackie Hicks (companion Mike Veach); sons, Ron Coffman and Dwight Coffman; a sister, Lindus (Ves) Chambers; nine grandchildren; a great-granddaughter and half brothers and half sisters.
He was also preceded in death by a granddaughter, Gwendolyn Hicks and by half brothers and half sisters.
He served in the US Army as a medic during World War II.
