Jean Marie Coffman, 96, of Mulberry, IN, passed away on Thursday, June 30, 2022 at Mulberry Health and Retirement Community in Mulberry, IN.

She was born on March 13, 1926 to the late Roy and Ada (Nelson) Oneal. She was a 1944 graduate of Wadena High School. When Jean was a young adult, she was the drummer in an all-girl swing band, which is how she met Charles Coffman. Jean was selling her drum set and Charles, wanting to meet her, pretended to be interested in purchasing it, the two met, fell in love, and were married on May 26, 1951 in Oxford, IN. Charles preceded her in death on October 27, 2011. Jean was a homemaker and worked as a banquet hostess for Holiday Inn for many years.

Jean enjoyed bowling, golf, gardening, college basketball and baseball, particularly the Chicago White Socks. A lover of all music, she favored big band music, such as Glenn Miller, Tommy Dorsey and Benny Goodman.

She is survived by three children; two siblings; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Along with her husband and parents, Jean was preceded in death by two daughters, Cheryl Cooper and Karen Culross; a granddaughter, Gwynn Hicks; and two brothers, Don Oneal and Nels Oneal.

Visitation will be from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM on Tuesday, June 12, 2022 at Soller-Baker Lafayette Chapel, 400 Twyckenham Blvd, Lafayette, IN 47909 followed by a graveside service at Tippecanoe Memory Gardens, 1718 W. 350 N. West Lafayette, IN 47906 with Pastor Linda Sproul officiating.
