MUNCIE--Mr. Carlos Duane "Pat" Longfellow, 72, Muncie, died Sunday, Jan. 16, 2006 at Ball Memorial Hospital following an extended illness. A native and lifelong resident of Muncie, Mr. Longfellow was the son of John Carlos and Ruby "McClellan" Longfellow.

He attended Muncie schools and was a 40+ year member of Muncie Bowling Association and a past member of the Salvation Army. Carlos served with the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He retired in 1997 after 27 years as a Painter with Indiana Bridge/RTW Industries.

Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Nina Grimm Longfellow, Muncie; three sons, John William Longfellow (wife-Lisa), Muncie, Robert D. Longfellow, Muncie, and Carl L. Longfellow (wife-Barbie), Muncie; two daughters, Laura Vandevender, Muncie, and Tena M. Thompson (husband-Michael), Muncie; five sisters, Sherry Anderson (husband-Loren), Muncie, Patti Hirst (husband-Richard), Muncie, Sally Michael, Streator, IL, Barbara Thomas, Streator, IL, and Linda Palmer, Franklin, TN; one brother, Robin Michael, Muncie; one brother-in-law, Ernie Whitted, Muncie; 12 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Carlos was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Virginia and Peggy Whitted; two brothers, Chester and Richard Longfellow; and his step-father, Cecil Michael.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Thursday in Parson Mortuary with Major Sally Michael officiating. Burial will follow. The family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and prior to services Thursday in the mortuary. Delaware County Veterans Honor Guard will conduct military graveside rites.
