The death of Mrs. Ellen Narcissus Allen, wife of C.W. Allen, which occured after months of lingering illness on January 2, 1928 at 2 o'clock.
Sister Allen was born in Scott County, Mississippi, December 26, 1859. She was the 5th of 6 children of Abraham and Letha Smith. Her father died in 1863 and with her mother, she moved to Texas in 1867, growing to womanhood in Prairie Valley, Hill Co., Texas. She was married to C.W. Allen October 10, 1875 and remained in Texas until 1899, moving to Oklahoma where she resided until her death. She was converted in 1878 and baptized by Rev. Manning and joined the Missionary Baptist Church of which faith she remained a faithful member till death.
She was the mother of 11 children, 4 boys and 7 girls, all grown to manhood and womanhood except one, dying in infancy. "Truly a great and faithful mother in Israel has fallen." and leaves to mourn her death a faithful husband, C.W. Allen and ten children, W.L. Allen of Elk City; Barbara Griggs of Lubbock, Texas; Abijah Allen of Elk City; Icie Gray of Carter, Okla; Samatha Beath of Oklahoma City, Mittie Bohannon of Clovis, New Mexico; Rufus Allen of Sayre; Ruth Steele, Elk City; Aubie McPeek of Oklahoma City, with twenty-nine grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
She was buried at Ural Cemetery at 3:00 January 4, 1928, after funeral services at Ural Church, conducted by her pastor, Walter Crane, assisted by J.B. Conley a former pastor.
The pall bearers were Mrs. Lizzie Cantwell, Mrs. Ana McDonald, Mrs. Will Culp, Mrs. D.R. Redmond, Mrs. D.C. Kimball and Mrs. Mae Spears.
