Rich Hillian "Loves to Live"

Will be 100 Next Monday

RICH HILL, MO. - "I love to live, so I guess that's the reason I have lived so long." mused Mrs. Carrie Barker as she prepares to celebrate her 100th birthday anniversary next Monday.

Mostly confined to her bed, Mrs. Barker sits up occasionally to enjoy her favorite pastimes, watching television and reading. She resides in the home of her son, Arthur Barker, 418 East Pine street, Rich Hill.

Carrie Bacon was born March 13, 1867 in Lexington, Mich., and has lived in Bates County the past 75 years, 73 in the Papinsville community and the last two in Rich Hill. She is a member of the Methodist Church.

Her husband, Richard Barker, a farmer, died in 1938. In addition to Arthur, two if their four children are still living, Fred Barker, Aberdeen, Wash., and Mrs. Claude (Leta) Alen, Rich Hill.

A daughter, Mrs. V. P. (Nettie) Miller, Kansas City, died two years ago.

Mrs. Barker has two grandchildren, two great grandchildren and one great great grandson.

"If I could only get up and walk, I'd be alright," Mrs. Barker told the Democrat, but she emphasized that "life at 100 is just as sweet as it ever was."

Mrs. Elise Schapeler of Rich Hill is employed to help take care of Mrs. Barker. Mrs. Schapeler described Mrs. Barker as "very cheerful and a joy to be around.
