Richard D. Barker

Richard D. Barker was born January 21, 1854 at Bloomington, Ill., and departed this life at the home in Papinsville, October 28, 1938.

No finer tribute can be paid than given by the minister who said: "Today we meet to pay our final tribute to an old friend and neighbor, Richard D. Barker. At an early age he migrated to the West where he married Carrie Bacon in Lincoln, Kansas. To this union was born four children, Nettie, of Kansas City, Fred of Hoquiam, Washington, Lina of Chicago, Ill., and Arthur of the home. His only sister, Mrs. L. Tiffy, resides in Clinton.

Mr. Barker was actively interested in the cattle industry in the early West and endured many hardships. His love of children and horses will be long remembered.

He came to the Papinsville vicinity 48 years ago in a covered wagon from Kansas. His death leaves only two persons over eighty years of age living in Papinsville.

The long day closes in the life of a kind, friendly neighbor, a constant husband and father.
