Nancy Ann "Millie" Downey was the daughter of Jackson Hampton Downey and Catherine Louisa "Kitty" White.

She was born 20 March 1850 in Piney Mountains, Rutherford County, North Carolina.

Jackson Hampton Downey and Catherine "Kitty" Downey, and their children left North Carolina in Aug 1859 and moved to McMinn County, Tennessee, near Calhoun.

Her father Jackson Downey was a Baptist Minister, a farmer, a blacksmith and a Miller.

John and Nancy lived in McMinn County, Tennessee until about 1882 when they relocated to Jackson County, Alabama.
