Howe, Eli, d. Mar. 22, 1842, age 49 yrs. 5 days

In a short bio of Eli Howe's grandson, Wilber W. Howe in the 1894 book "History and biography of Washington county and the town of Queensbury, New York" it states Eli Howe was of Connecticut before moving to Otsego County, NY. However, it is believed he may have been a son of Levi Howe.

In the 1820 census, there is an Eli Howe living next to Silas Howe in Westford, Otsego, NY. Silas Howe, the brother of Levi Howe, owned the Howe Grist and Saw Mills in Westford.

Via the 1855 NY census, Eli's widow Lovina and son John Howe had lived in Maryland, Otsego, NY since 1826.

In 1827, Eli Howe and Philor Benedict built a grist mill in Maryland and some time after, in connection with Mr. Belknap, built a stone rifle factory near the mill. Later, John Howe built a saw-mill south of the grist mill and a blacksmith shop near by.

16 Aug 1827 Otsego Deed NN, pg 302, Eli Howe sold 2 acres of land in Great Lot 29 of McKee's patent in the town of Maryland near saw mill to Philo Benedict.
