Born Jan. 6, 1924, in Benoit, Miss., to Charley and Lucy Williams Thomas, he married Earnestine Humes-Carey in 1956. She survives.
Also surviving are three sons, Robert Carey, Arthur Thomas Jr. and Charley Thomas, all of Peoria; two daughters, Mary Thomas Sain of Peoria and Patricia Thomas Gilbertson of Shawnee, Kan.; one sister, Thelma Davis of Peoria; and 12 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one brother and three sisters.
He was a World War II Navy veteran, serving from 1944 to 1946.
He worked for F.W. Means Inc. for 30 years, retiring in 1987.
A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Monday at T.W. Parks Colonial Chapel, where visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday. The Rev. Arthur Williams will officiate. Burial will be in Camp Butler National Cemetery in Springfield.
