Wanda Holman Smith Simmons

Wanda Holman Smith Simmons passed away Thursday, November 3, 2011.

She was the last survivor of the 13 children born to Robert Ross and Mary Rebecca Brown Holman. Wanda was born on March 13, 1914 in Bear River City, Utah. She spent her entire childhood in Bear River City.

On December 22, 1930 she married Everett Smith. They lived in Tremonton and raised their family there. They had a daughter Beverly and three sons, Keith, Robert and Darrell. All of her children were born at home. During the summer she worked at the local cannery. In 1945 they moved to Roy, Utah and Wanda made missile parts for Sperry's. Wanda and Everett were divorced and Wanda moved to Layton. While living in Layton Wanda worked at Hill Air Force Base.

In 1952 she married John Simmons. They enjoyed dancing and traveling. After John died in 1979 Wanda continued to travel with her friends and family.

Wanda had many talents and interests. She belonged to a square dance club for five years. She was a talented seamstress. She made many of her own clothes. She also made many quilts for her family and friends.

Wanda is survived by one son, Bob, two daughters-in-law, Carolyn Smith and Joan Smith, two sisters-in-law, Irene Holman and Helen Holman, 11grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, 18 great-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be held Monday, November 7, 2011 at 12 noon at the Bear River City Cemetery, Bear River, Utah. Friends may visit family on Monday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at Lindquist's Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Road.
