Reed-Sabbath morning, March 18th, 1888 at her residence in Union township, Union county, Ohio. Mrs Jane Reed, wife of Josiah Reed, aged 77 years, 2 month and 18 days.

Mrs. Reed’s maiden name was Jane Anderson. She was born near Little York, Pennsylvania, December 31st, 1810. When twelve years of age, she came with her parents to Union County, Ohio. She was united in marriage to Josiah Reed, December 8th, 1835. To them have been born 9 children, 7 sons and 2 daughters. One daughter died thirty-three years ago-the first and only death in the family, till the mother was taken from them. Four of her sons carried the Union flag all through the Civil War, and made a noble record as defenders of our glorious Union.

For more than fifty years she and her aged husband lived happily together in the endearments of their domestic home, and on the same farm. When a young wife, and as much as fifty years age, she united with the Presbyterian church of Milford Centre, and remained iin that church and its communion, until called home by death. She was unable to wait upon services regularly, for some years past, through the infirmities resulting from bodily weakness on increasing age.

She died trusting in her Savior, and before her last sickness freely and calmly talked about her spiritual interest and her prospects in the future. She said, that it was her feeling that her work was done, and she would soon go home.

She loved good books, and her daily companions were such volumes as “Alexander’s Sermons” and Baxter's “Saints Rest”.

She was a devoted mother and a loving wife and companion, meak [meek] and gentle in spirit. She has gone to rest, leaving an aged, feeble husband and a large family to mourn her loss.
